Best Restaurants of the Canary Islands

Canary Islands Restaurants

The Canary Islands, located near the coast of Africa, is a popular tourist destination. With their many volcanoes and rugged coastline, the islands have their exotic charm.

The Canary Islands have a wide variety of cuisines available to choose from, and a magnificent range of delightful restaurants. In this article, we will describe our favorite restaurants in the Canary Islands. These are some of the best restaurants in the Canary Islands. I have organized them according to the island location.

El Hierro

Restaurante Guayana Timijiraque

If you can get a table near the window, you will be able to take full advantage of the wonderful views. The restaurant serves some excellent fish items at a reasonable price. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, opening until late into the night.

Ctra. Timijiraque Timijiraque, 38910, Valverde, El Hierro Spain

La Tafeña Restaurante

The management is particularly helpful and the restaurant is very popular. It is certainly worth a visit and the service is very fast. The lunchtime Pork Steak, with a delicious sauce, and served with potatoes is a dish that should not be missed. Beware, if you get there too late, you will find that they are turning people away.

Calle Quintero Ramos 2 Local Bajo, 38900, Valverde, El Hierro Spain

Guachinche Aguadara

This restaurant is surrounded by scenic hillsides and the décor is stunning. Very much open to the elements and maybe in the dead of winter could be cold, but certainly, in the tourist season, it is very pleasant. The food is amazing as is the homemade wine. The staff does not speak English so unless you speak Spanish it could be difficult, but well worth taking a look.

Carretera Casas del Monte 8 B, 38916 El Mocanal, El Hierro Spain

Amore Mio

Excellent Pizza and Pasts. A very helpful guy called “Mike” will happily serve you in a very helpful way. If communication becomes an issue the lady cooking the pizza speaks English. You should try the homemade Lasagne, it is really good. In fact, all the Pizza and Pasta was superb and a joy to eat. In the evenings the restaurant is open until 11:30 pm and there is both indoor and outdoor seating to choose from.

Calle la lapa Número 6, 38917 La Restinga, El Hierro Spain

Jamonería Iberic HAM Factory

It is just a bar that serves the most excellent food. Simple food that fills a gap and is served in a pleasant environment. The sandwiches are the real specialty here and look out for their splendid Ham and Cheese sandwiches. There is a wide range of hams to choose from and the helpful staff allowed us to try the various hams before we ordered. We also tried a beautiful Iberian ham on crusty bread. Sitting in the sun we let the fat melt into the bread. Lovely!

Calle Lepanto 18, 35660 Corralejo, La Oliva, Fuerteventura Spain

La Villa

The hosts, Christina and Adrian, are well known for their warm and welcoming personalities. The menu contains much of what you would expect BUT the interpretation of the dishes is not ordinary, it is excellent. They serve great fish and meat dishes with perfect service and a very relaxed ambiance. People who find this restaurant tend to come again and again.

Calle de Francisco Bordon Mendez 1, 35640 Villaverde, La Oliva, Fuerteventura Spain

El Pellizco

The restaurant has a wide-ranging menu that has a unique local charm. The décor is quite basic and this is not a place you will find starched white tablecloths. What you will find is great food cooked with passion and a simple rustic charm. They do not speak much English so come prepared. Prices are quite reasonable and you will find a few vegetarian dishes, but not that many.

Calle de el Carmen # 13, 35625 Morro del Jable, Pajara, Fuerteventura Spain

Gran Canaria

Natural 2.6 comida Vegana y Vegetarian

This is a family restaurant where you will find excellent vegetarian and vegan meals, with great service. I would recommend the Beanburger with a salad. They also serve a nice local organic white wine. The Tiramisu is also worth trying. It is located in a parade of shops with tables and chairs outside.

Calle Partera Leonorita 6, 35100 Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas, Gran Canaria Spain

Mol Café

The café is situated adjacent to a park and has splendid ocean views where you can catch canaries flying by. It is a comfortable place to sit and watch the world go by. The staff is super friendly and they do offer some vegetarian food. They open Monday to Friday from 6 am to 1 pm. A coffee specialist that is just perfect for those who rise early.

Calle de Cadiz 18 Esq Bailen, 35012 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria Spain

Microclima Concept Food

A great bar with a live music schedule, The staff is very friendly and a good ambiance. Affordably priced Tapas and Burgers that are presented well and served fast. As soon as you are seated they will take your drinks order, you do not have to sit and wait. An excellent choice for somewhere to come and relax. The staff is talkative and not pushy.

Calle de Miguel Marrero Rodriguez 38, 35120 Arguineguin, Mogan, Gran Canaria Spain

La Gomera

The food is central to the success of this restaurant. The talented chef produces a variety of excellent dishes. One visit will not be enough, as this is a gastronomic experience that will never be forgotten. They also provide a relaxing ambiance and excellent service, making this the complete restaurant package. All three courses were excellent and the staff was just so helpful.

Calle La Noria, 38870, La Gomera Spain

Restaurante La Salsa

This is a restaurant for those looking for a leisurely meal. You can see the chefs working in the kitchen and the waiting staff are both efficient and helpful. It is not a large restaurant so the ambiance is good, it does not reach the dull roar that some large establishments are guilty of. The prices are very reasonable and you will have a good time.

Calle Telemaco, 11, 38870, La Gomera Spain

La Chalana

A truly laid-back beach restaurant with first-rate customer service. They also stock a good range of Spanish and local beers. You should really try their sardines, a simple and tasty dish. The restaurant, situated on a black sand and pebble beach is not the most stylish, but its simplicity and location is part of its charm.

Barranco Colon Laguna, off Avenida Maritima, 38810 Playa de Santiago, La Gomera Spain

Mumbai Masala Puerto Calero

You cannot fault the location of the restaurant, it is situated overlooking the marina. There are several tables on the shaded terrace, and the environment is well maintained. The restaurant is excellent value for money and the quality of the food is excellent. The place has many regular customers who enjoy the extensive menu.

Paseo Marítimo Puerto Calero Local 15, 35571 Yaiza, Lanzarote Spain

Alba Dreams Bar

Aileen and Jim, from Paisley, host this fabulous upstairs Pub. The bar itself has excellent views of the ocean, and everything is spotlessly clean. Unfortunately, you have to go upstairs to find this gem, I m sure they lose trade because of it, but once you get inside it’s brilliant. The food is home-cooked and it is a home from home for many Brits.

Avenida las Playas 100 CC Jameos local 89, 35510 Tias, Lanzarote Spain

Restaurante Dunas de Famara

This beautiful restaurant has a lot going for it. It is all about the beautiful setting and the styling of the restaurant. The views from the terrace are stunning and the restaurant itself looks so classy. The food is well presented and generally enjoyable, but the negatives are that the food is slightly overpriced and they try to boost the bills by placing bread on the table, without it being asked for, then charging €7.60 for it (that is nearly 20 times the cost of a small baguette in a local supermarket).

Calle Chirimoya 13, 35558 Caleta de Famara, Lanzarote Spain

La Palma

This tiny restaurant revolves around the host Carmen, who “performs” with pure theatre, entertaining the guests and providing truly personal service. There are typically a couple of fish dishes, and a couple of meat dishes together with pasta. The choice is somewhat limited but Carmen more than makes up for it. She may at random hand around chocolates or glasses of rum or grappa. It is a place for a personal experience and that experience will take time, Carmen does not rush customers. The best time to book is 7:30 pm to get the benefit of the total experience.

Calle Doctor Santos Abreu No. 2, 38700 Santa Cruz de la Palma, La Palma Spain

Cerveceria Isla Verde

This venue is famed for its beers. It offers a great selection of self-brewed beers. It does not have the longest menu but what food it does offer is well worth waiting for, as they are well presented and taste delicious. In the daytime, there is a pleasant terrace to enjoy and at night the restaurant has a comfortable atmosphere. Best of all the prices are remarkably low. Certainly well worth a visit. (oh, and do not forget to try the homemade bread).

Lp-1 Plaza El Jesus, 38780 Tijarafe, La Palma Spain

La Placita Food and Coffee

The surroundings are very attractive and although the décor is basic the food is delicious. The most popular part of the restaurant in the daytime is the terrace. A great place to chill out and enjoy the local atmosphere. Portions are on the large size, so beware. They will accommodate vegetarian requirements as required. The steaks are very popular (and large), I wish that I had tried them.

Calle La Plaza 5, 38729, San Andres y Sauces, La Palma Spain

Plazale Pizzeria

The food in this Italian restaurant is authentic Italian, and delicious. Many people claim that it serves the best pizza anywhere. You may need to book well in advance to get a table, but it is worth the effort. The restaurant offers top-quality ingredients and top-quality customer care. The whole experience is excellent. This is one of those restaurants that are not only popular with tourists, but also with locals, and that is always a good sign.

Isla de la Graciosa nr 8, 38687 Playa San Juan, Guia de Isora, Tenerife Spain

El Refugio de Vilaflor

Great value food, prepared fresh and served by the owner and a waitress, who are both incredibly charming and helpful. Portions are generous and tasty, to be enjoyed to the accompaniment of live piano music. Customers are made to feel valued and it is a place that will demand a return visit regularly. Run by a couple with the guy at the front of the house and his wife doing the cooking. It is a roadside restaurant that caters mostly to travelers.

Carretera C 821 41, 38613 Vilaflor, Tenerife Spain

Bbq Spice Indian Tandoori

High levels of service at this restaurant. They go out of their way to keep the customer happy, by ensuring everything is perfect. In one case a customer ordered a drink that was out of stock, within ten minutes, the owner had gone out and bought more. They will customize the food to your liking and generally go out of their way in every department.

Final Thought

I hope that you have found this guide to my favorite restaurants in the Canary Islands to be useful. There are so many more restaurants I could have mentioned, the Islands really are a great place to dine out, with a culture of service, and a great love of cooking. I hope you try some of the restaurants and enjoy them as I have.
